Apps are the life blood of blended learning they are both the best things you can find, and they can be the worst things you can find. You have to try the apps out, this takes time, and then the app slowly demands more access until you find that your iPhone or iPad is mining every action, location, web activity that you do. Security issues present a tremendous risk to the safety of Data in a university system. Even this software has a level of access that I am uncomfortable about. If you can think of something that you want there is an app that can do. My word of caution is that no free app is free, the costs are hidden in the data mining. What can we do? Well you can limit the access you give the App, but the designers are not stupid, they limit the functionality of the app. You can learn to design your own apps, good luck with that one! I am trying, but it is very time consuming, and I think difficult.
I am in love with the digital world, and our students are very skilled with manipulating data. Blended learning will change the face of education. Resistance is fierce, yet I am of the mind that many power gate holders, stakeholders and parents do not see the writing is on the wall. Therefor Blended learning is a medium that will bring about social change. As with all agents of change, it will be driven by its duality, the best we can hope for is a win-win situations but creativity has to be supported and financed. I am confident now since finishing the blendkit2017 course that I can meet the future better trained to avoid the many pitfalls. Progress will be made with small steps and a few train wrecks.. but it will be made.
